Martin Luther considered music to be one of the most important ways to build faith and discipleship. At All Saints, Luther’s belief is displayed through musical programs that embrace many different styles and sensibilities to vocalists and instrumentalists who wish to use their gifts to the glory of God.
In order to equip our musicians to sound their best, All Saints' three-year "Beyond this Day" capital campaign, which ends in December, designated funding for new sound equipment and recording technology in both the Sanctuary and Parish Hall as well as a Kegg pipe organ.
Gerke organ recital
As part of the continuing organ dedication series highlighting All Saints’ new Kegg Pipe Organ, Tom Gerke, the church’s organist since 1976, will present a concert featuring a newly commissioned work.
When: 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27.
About the commission: During his recital, Gerke will introduce “Notas de Espana,” composed by James Hopkins of Pasadena, Calif., and commissioned by All Saints for this special occasion.
In memory of Sally Joe Coleman: Carl R. and Judith Coleman donated funding for the commission in loving memory of their daughter Sally Jo Coleman. During the concert, Gerke also will use the chimes recently added to the organ through the Colemans’ generosity. The remainder of the Coleman’s donation in their daughter’s honor is earmarked for the establishment of a music enrichment program in the church.
Organ recital CDs for sale
Recordings of Brenna Wright’s Farewell Organ Recital on Oct. 28 and the 11 a.m. organ dedication service on Oct. 14 are available for purchase. Wright served as All Saints assistant organist for the past two years and is now continuing her education in Germany.
Cost: $10 per CD. Checks should be made payable to Martin Williamson.
Benefiting: $5 from each purchase of Wright’s recital will be sent to her in support of her studies. $5 from each purchase of the organ dedication service will be forwarded to the All Saints Organ Fund and will be tax deductible.
