The Journey: Walking the Road to Bethlehem

“Imagine the holy land, over 2,000 years ago, a time shrouded in darkness and uncertainty. A young woman named Mary and her husband, Joseph, travel many miles to the village of Bethlehem. To passers-by, they would seem all but ordinary. Now imagine the sheer, almost unfathomable magnitude of the secret task carried by this young couple. This is the journey of the people whom God selected for a most sacred purpose -- to bring the Son of God, our Messiah, into the world.”

Join us at 9:30 a.m. Sundays for “The Journey: Walking the Road to Bethlehem,” in which Adam Hamilton shines fresh light on this vital story, integrating historical and archaeological information, and interweaving personal reflection to illuminate this most pivotal moment in history. Look deeper into the life and birth of Christ and gain insight into your own journey with the Lord, as you follow in the sacred footsteps of Mary, Joseph and others on the journey to Bethlehem.”

Jan. 8-Feb. 12

Carolyn Eselgroth will offer the course, "The Reason for God" by Pastor Timothy Keller at 9:30 a.m. Sundays from Jan. 8 through Feb. 12.

Among the topics:

  • Why does God allow suffering in the world?
  • How could a loving God send people to Hell?
  • Why isn’t Christianity more inclusive?
  • How can one religion be “right” and the others “wrong”?
  • Why have so many wars been fought in the name of God?

These are just a few of the questions and doubts even ardent believers wrestle with today. As the founding pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City, Timothy Keller has compiled a list of the most frequently voiced “doubts” skeptics bring to his church as well as the most important reasons for faith. And in the New York Times bestselling "The Reason for God," he addresses each doubt and explains each reason.

Keller uses literature, philosophy, real-life conversations and reasoning to explain how faith in a Christian God is a soundly rational belief, held by thoughtful people of intellectual integrity with a deep compassion for those who truly want to know the truth.

Captured live and unscripted, pastor and author Timothy Keller meets with a group of people over six sessions to address their doubts and objections to Christianity. Using literature, philosophy, real-life experiences, and the Bible, Keller and the group explore the truth of Christianity.

We will use the Discussion Guide and DVD to learn how to engage others in dialogue on six common objections to Christianity. Whether in a group setting or individual conversation, The Reason for God is a resource for what to say in response to these objections, and a model for how to say it.

Session Titles and Descriptions:
1. Isn’t the Bible a Myth?
2. How Can You Say There Is Only One Way to God?
3. What Gives You the Right to Tell Me How to Live My Life?
4. Why Does God Allow Suffering?
5. Why Is the Church Responsible for So Much Injustice?
6. How Can God Be Full of Love and Wrath at the Same Time?
