Holy Baptism

“At the river your Son was baptized by John and anointed with the Holy Spirit. By the baptism of Jesus’ death and resurrection you set us free from the power of sin and death and raise us up to live in you.”

— Evangelical Lutheran Worship

Baptism is one of two sacraments that mark Lutheran theology and practice, the other being the Eucharist (Holy Communion). At All Saints, the occasion of baptism usually is celebrated during a scheduled worship service and with the participation of the congregation in addition to the pastor, parents and sponsors.

ELCA Lutherans believe that Baptism is the Church’s entry rite and therefore practice infant baptism. In choosing to have a child baptized, parents take on the promises of living with that child in the church and providing a Christian education and nurturing the child’s growth in faith. All Saints provides an educational course for parents in advance of a child’s baptism to provide them the support and information they need to take on those promises.

All Saints also joyfully offers the Sacrament to teens or adults who have completed the educational course for all new members and have expressed their desire to be baptized into the family of Christ.

During all baptisms, the congregation also takes on a promise to "support and pray for the newly baptized in their new life in Christ," a vow All Saints fulfills through educational, fellowship and service opportunties for Christians of all ages.
