All Saints' response: Haiti earthquake
All Saints has grieved for the many dead and injured in Haiti following the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Jan 12 near the capital city of Port-au-Prince. We are committed to reaching out to those in need and establishing a relationship that will help not only with the immediate needs for medical treatment, food, water and shelter but also long-term efforts to create a safe and prosperous community for those who survive.
How to help
Volunteer for an All Saints Haiti Task Force that will review the best ways in which our congregation can aid those in need, including a possible mission trip in the coming months. The group will first meet at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14 in the Conference Room.
Donate through All Saints, designating your gift for one of the several Lutheran agencies on the ground in Haiti.
- ELCA Disaster Response (www.elca.org): Immediate relief such as provision of fresh water, hygiene kits and medical supplies. As the situation evolves, efforts will shift to rebuilding efforts.
- Lutheran World Relief (www.LWR.org/haiti): The agency requests cash gifts that can be used for immediate needs such as water, food and shelter for survivors, provided in partnership with other international faith-based organizations and in Haiti.
- Lutheran Disaster Response – Ohio (www.lssco.org/haiti): Gifts will be used to send volunteers and materials for long-term recovery, with the first teams likely to travel to Haiti this summer.
Donate through Thrivent Financial for Lutherans
- Thrivent will contribute $1 for each $2 donation Thrivent members make by March 31, up to $1 million. These funds will go to ELCA Disaster Response, Lutheran World Relief and other Lutheran agencies.
- Thrivent members may respond by visiting Thrivent.com/helpinghaiti or calling 1-800-236-3736 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. When prompted, say “directory” and enter Ext. 83003.
