Holy Week

This year, All Saints has something special planned for “The Three Days” -- Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday -- which fall this yearApril1 through 3.

We will hold our traditional 7:30 p.m. services Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. Pastors Bonnie Gerber and Mike Weaver will participate in the annual noon Good Friday ecumenical service on the Worthington Green, in which All Saints’ community is encouraged to participate.

The congregation also will mark the special nature of these days through a continuous reading of the Gospels from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Good Friday and from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Holy Saturday.

Also Holy Saturday, All Saints will offer a special 5 p.m. service in Remembrance of Baptism. This service hearkens back to how the ancient church baptized new members on the Vigil of Easter. (Some Christian churches continue this practice today.) Although not a traditional Easter Vigil, this reflective service will help us recall that in baptism we became reborn children of God.

In addition, please visit Parish Hall on Good Friday for a representation of the Stations of the Cross, wherein we recall Christ’s great sacrifice in living among us and willingly dying for our sins.

Save the date: 'One in Christ'

All Saints will celebrate its second “One in Christ” worship service at 10 a.m. May 23.
The church will mark the feast of Pentecost as one body, with a simulcast service held in the Sanctuary and Parish Hall.

This single service will replace all other worship services for that day. In bringing together traditional and children’s choirs, the contemporary worship teams and all who gather on Sunday mornings, All Saints hopes to foster unity and live in the unity to which Christ called us.

The first “One in Christ” service, during which we celebrated Christ the King, was a moving experience for all involved, as we met those in our community we might not otherwise see.
The service will be conducted in both the Sanctuary and Parish Hall, with screens broadcasting the portions in both.

Volunteer opportunities

All Saints welcomes the many volunteers who make worship special by devoting their time and talents, which include gifts of music, oratory, organization and hospitality.

Click here for opportunities to become more involved in weekly or special worship. Volunteers are especially needed to usher, greet and staff the nursery for special services during the holiday seasons.

Communion schedule

All Saints offers Holy Communion every week, except for fifth Sundays or in the case of special events, during the 11 a.m. service in the Sanctuary and twice a month during its other services.

Why more frequent communion?: A review of our historical roots and our understanding of the sacraments led All Saints to the decision to offer the Eucharist more frequently. Martin Luther never thought of having a Sunday morning service without communion because he understood that Christ was present in both the visible and the spoken Word of God.

Some history: It was when our ancestors came to the “new world” and had too few ordained pastors to celebrate the Eucharist on a weekly basis that we started the practice of having it less frequently. Since the 1970s, the trend in Lutheran churches across the United States has been to increase the frequency of communion. This has been reflected in the past two hymnals that gave us liturgies that include communion as part of each service.

Other services: All Saints offers communion at its 8:15 a.m. service on the first and third Sundays of each month, and at its 9:30 a.m. service and the 11 a.m. Gathering on second and fourth Sundays of each month. On fifth Sundays, all services feature a service of healing.
